Salvaterra do Extremo hosts the travelling exhibition “Landscape Together – Building Territorial Communities in the Central Interior”, developed by the University of Coimbra as part of the European Landscape Together project and in collaboration with the Experimenta Paisagem initiative.

The exhibition presents a synthesis of the work carried out during the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 academic years in the Design Studios ID and IID of the University of Coimbra’s Integrated Master’s Programme in Architecture. It brings together architectural proposals and territorial strategies developed by students for several settlements within the Experimenta Paisagem Urban
Network.

In the case of Salvaterra do Extremo, the proposals are organised around the strategy “Salvaterra Experimenta”, developed by Joana Rebelo, Mathilde Paquet, Oceane Pinto and Nelson Oliveira. The strategy builds on the village’s-built heritage, productive resources, landscape, and strong local identity, presenting Salvaterra as a place of innovation, learning, and new ways of living.

Structured around the three complementary themes of learning, producing and inhabiting, the strategy includes the Acorn Centre, dedicated to research and innovation based on acorns; the Olive Production and Research Centre; an Alternative Education Centre that transforms the village and landscape into spaces for learning; a Local Products Shop; a Rural Cohousing project based on the rehabilitation of vacant buildings; and the enhancement of the public realm through the integration of the Ninho Globo artwork by Atelier YokYok, strengthening the relationship between art, heritage and community.

Rather than simply presenting architectural projects, the exhibition invites reflection on how local communities can actively enhance and shape their own territories.

Following its presentation in Salvaterra do Extremo, the exhibition will conclude its travelling programme in Coimbra.
